The League of Extraordinary Grandparents (LEGs) is founded on the belief every life matters and every kid is important and every grandparent-type relationship makes a difference.
Our mission is to connect Grand-hearts with Grand-needs and provide positive intergenerational connections and relationships for foster kids each month.
Our vision for this program is to create a safe, fun place for connection for foster children and older adults to thrive.
LEGs is a nonprofit startup program focused on bringing foster children and the underserved, ages 4 - 10, together with older adults in a positive, intergenerational experience for a grandparent-to-child nurturing connection in uniquely designed activities every month.
The program provides time for creativity, fun, imagination, relationship building, and positive connections between older adults and kids. We give kids, who may or may not have grandparents in their lives, opportunities to have fun with older adults for meaningful connections with younger people. Our program may help depression for all, can improve younger children’s social skills and self-worth, provides companionship, friends, and is another support outlet for foster parents.
Inspired by my own experiences, I realized the profound impact that meaningful connections can have on a child's life. This organization aims to bridge the gap between foster children and loving grandparent volunteers, creating a nurturing community where everyone can thrive.
LEGs is a 501(c)(3) funded by donations and grants. As a startup, startup costs were funded by the owner initially until monies are obtained to provide operational resources and reimbursements for costs incurred by the owner, board members or volunteers.
