LEGs is here in this community to be a resource, a benefit to the community, and primarily a source of nurturing and caring for young people who need a little extra love and care just because. This program benefits all who participate, giving them purpose and new ways of connecting all who need unconditional connections.
Research shows, the older generation, who may or may not have grandchildren, can benefit from time with children and young adults to help with depression and loneliness, giving them purpose and new ways of connecting later in life.
The reality is foster children may not have grandparents or access to grandparents due to the nature of the foster care situation. Studies show children who have connections/relationships with the older generation have more emotional stability, improved social skills, and do better academically.
Monthly Saturday mornings of fun with grand-parent-type volunteers spending quality time with foster kids in a creative, safe environment of nurturing, positivity, and guided, specifically designed fun activities to make an intergenerational connection for the benefit of everyone involved.
We know foster kids don't always have the regular grandparent connections or time to experience the benefits of grandparent-type relationships and sharing.
Our community has grand-parent-type people who may not have grandkids or access to young people to share fun activities and life experiences like grandparents do.
We are here to connect all! We have loving, compassionate, and kind grandparent-type volunteers coming together every third Saturday to give each foster child who participates a grand-parent who is there because they want to have fun, make a difference, and just BE for the young people who need some extra good in their lives.
Grandparents and older people need connections, conversations, time to share, and experience the joy and wonder of being a part of kids' learning and more. Our program gives each grand-parent a unique purpose to their lives. Studies show this type of relationship benefits kids and adults, it is an important part of life for all people. Connectional moments, great conversations and sharing through games, creative activities from painting to puppets and more with space to be imaginative, and themselves, foster kids together enjoy time with people who just want to be there for them.
We exist for the foster kids. We fill hearts and minds with acceptance for each person who participates. We make the difference, just like grandparents, because we are GRAND-PARENTS for GRAND-HEARTS who have GRAND-NEEDS.
